LEARNING TO ROW WITH Y.C.R.C.

Rowing is a fun and satisfying way to improve health, fitness and strength. Some regard the sport as a way of getting fit, others get fit to improve their performance.

Rowing is a sport which can be either a competitive or recreational. Rowers can either be part of a crew and experience team activity, or enjoy the skills of single sculling.

York City Rowing Club likes to welcome all who wish to learn to row. The only stipulation is that you are in good health and can swim at least 50 metres in light clothing and shoes.

Our Learn to Row courses will be held this summer beginning on Monday 25th August.

There will be three, twice weekly courses over a period of five weeks.

Red Course                Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm

                                    Beginning on Monday 25th August

Blue Course               Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8pm

                                    Beginning on Tuesday 26th August

Green Course            Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm

                                    Beginning on Saturday 30th August

The costs of the courses are £75 and for those who wish to continue with their rowing afterwards, £25 will be credited towards the cost of full membership.

All applicants are expected to be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing.

York City Rowing Learn to Row Courses

The courses are designed for adult beginners both male and female to give an enjoyable introduction to the sport and physical activity of rowing. You will have the opportunity to learn basic sculling skills on indoor rowing machines and on the water as well as learning about safety awareness and care of equipment.

At the end of the course you will be able to continue rowing/sculling by applying to join the Club and you will be advised of opportunities for progression as a recreational activity or through competition.

You can wear normal sports clothes – not too tight or too loose. In cold weather a warm hat and several layers of clothing can be worn so that some can be removed if need be as you warm up during the activity. Please always bring a change of clothes and a towel.

A charge of £75 (cheques to "York City Rowing Club") is payable when booking. This is not refundable except on cancellation of the course by the Club.
In the event of flooding or adverse conditions the Club will either provide an indoor programme or postpone that and subsequent sessions by one week.

If you apply to join the Club at the end of the course, £25 of your course fee will be credited against the cost of your first year’s subscription.

The Club is responsible for control, safety and discipline on the course and reserves the right to change, terminate or cancel any course or to expel any course member.

The cancellation of any course by the Club shall not give rise to any claim for compensation by a course member save for the refund of a proportionate part of the course fee, calculated on a weekly basis.

Rowing activities on the water and its associated training can be performed safely if we control the risks. In order to help with this you are asked to complete the declaration of health and swimming ability.

COXING

Ever thought about becoming a cox?  Coxing is more than simply pulling the strings and steering a boat. A good cox can mean the difference between winning and loosing a race.

York City is looking for small people with large personalities who would like to train to become coxes.  We will teach you about safety procedures, water and river craft and how to be part of a crew.  You will be heavily involved along with our coaches in the training of crews destined for competitions locally and further afield.

If you would like to take the next step then please send your contact details to :
webmaster@york-city-rowing-club.co.uk
and we will put your name down for our next course on coxing.
