Boat Naming 20th March 2005

Boat naming Ceremony for three new boats that have been very generously sponsored by three local charities was held on 2oth March. A group of over fifty people drawn from sponsors, Club officials, parent’s and members of the clubs Junior section joined John Sparrow , Club Chairman down on the riverside to see the three new boats named and then put on the river and rowed past by juniors. A junior single scull was sponsored by Feoffees of St Michael’s Spurriergate and was named “Irvine Watson”. The club was delighted that Mr Watson could come and perform the naming of the boat  in person.  Another junior single scull was named Norman Collinson for the Norman Collinson Trust and was named by Mike Saville, a former Captain of York City Rowing Club  The third boat was a double scull named ”Jack Birch”  by Mike Sessions, Vice Chairman of York Children’s Trust.  Last year over half of York City’s wins were provided by the junior section which is now over 40 strong with a waiting list for possible new members.
